What would your future self tell you to STOP doing?
Feb 18, 2025
If the version of you who has already achieved everything you say you want could send you a message right now…
What would she tell you to STOP doing immediately?
Take a second. Really sit with it. Don’t rush past this question.
Last week, I asked my community this. The answers were fast, sharp, and crystal clear:
π₯ “Stop worrying.”
π₯ “Stop ruminating.”
π₯ “Stop saying yes when you want to say no.”
Not long, complex answers. Just truth, straight from the future.
And it hit me—this is the stuff we already know.
We know what’s weighing us down.
We know what’s draining our energy.
We know what’s keeping us stuck.
But knowing isn’t the hard part. Stopping is.
The day I stopped carrying everyone else’s weight
For years, I woke up feeling responsible.
Not just for my work, but for everyone else’s.
If a client was stuck, I felt it in my body.
If someone was struggling, I made it my mission to lift them.
I carried their confusion, their doubts, their breakthroughs.
And I didn’t even realize I was doing it.
Until one day, I stopped.
I listened.
And I heard my future self say:
"This is not yours to carry."
So I put it down.
I stopped over-functioning.
I stopped making things harder than they needed to be.
I stopped waking up with the weight of other people’s problems on my shoulders.
And when I actually let go?
Everything aligned.
The work felt light again.
Clients had their own breakthroughs—on their own timeline, in their own way.
I led from a place of trust, not over-effort.
And I see this with my clients, too.
Mission-driven, high-achieving women who feel like they have to hold it all together. Who carry the weight of impact, leadership, and impossible expectations.
So I’ll tell you what I’d tell them:
π₯ Stop proving your worth. You don’t need to justify your seat at the table. You are the table.
Stop waiting for permission. No one is going to “let” you step into your next level. You claim it.
Stop over-explaining. Your clarity doesn’t require validation. Say it once, and let it stand.
Stop carrying the emotional labor of everyone around you. You can lead with empathy without holding their struggles.
π₯ Stop thinking you have to do it alone. The right people are ready to walk beside you—if you let them.
Stop believing that leadership has to be hard. Challenge? Yes. Growth? Always. But struggle isn’t the price of impact.
Stop assuming you have to choose between ambition and presence. Your most powerful moves will come when you are both fully here and visioning beyond.
π₯ Stop saying yes out of obligation. If it’s not a full-body YES, it’s a no. Period.
Stop waiting for clarity before taking action. Action creates clarity. Move first, adjust as you go.
Stop doubting your impact. You are shifting the trajectory of industries, lives, and futures. Own it.
The Invitation: Will You Actually Stop?
So now I ask you—again.
Not as a thought experiment.
Not as a journal prompt.
But as an invitation to actually stop.
π₯ What would your future self tell you to STOP doing?
π₯ What happens when you listen—not someday, but today?
Because the shift doesn’t happen when you try harder.
It happens when you stop.
Love,
Rita
