Stuck with a problem? Maybe it’s not the problem—it’s your perspective.
Dec 10, 2024What if the problem keeping you up at night isn’t really the problem?
What if it’s just the way you’re looking at it?
Let’s flip this around. What if the problem in front of you is the key to unlocking something extraordinary—something you didn’t even realise was possible?
To explore that, we’re going to use some lenses. Not just any lenses—the four lenses:
Vision, Compassion, Creativity, and Fierce Curiosity.
These lenses aren’t about finding quick fixes. They’re about completely reframing how you see a challenge.
Because, honestly, the problem is rarely the problem—it’s how you’re looking at it.
Lens 1: Vision – Are you stuck zooming in?
Here’s the truth: Every problem sits inside a bigger story.
The Vision lens asks:
- How does this connect to my big dreams, goals, or mission?
- What if this isn’t a detour but a neon sign pointing me exactly where I need to go?
When you’re knee-deep in a problem, everything feels urgent and overwhelming. Vision helps you zoom out, breathe, and realign with what actually matters.
For leaders, this lens is gold. It’s how you stop reacting to every fire and start focusing on the work that really moves the needle.
Lens 2: Compassion – What aren’t you seeing?
We’re all quick to judge problems—and ourselves—as “bad” or “wrong.” But what if the problem is a mirror, reflecting something you’ve been avoiding?
The Compassion lens asks:
- What am I being invited to understand about myself or others?
- What would happen if I stopped resisting and softened instead?
Here’s the thing about compassion: It’s not weakness—it’s strength. It allows leaders to see challenges for what they really are, without defensiveness.
This lens helps you stop fighting your problem and start learning from it.
Lens 3: Creativity – Are you playing it too safe?
When was the last time you dared to break the rules?
The Creativity lens asks:
- What haven’t I tried yet?
- What would happen if I flipped this on its head?
Creativity turns problems into playgrounds.
It’s where innovation lives.
Leaders, this is where you give yourself permission to try the wild ideas. Even the ones that seem ridiculous at first—they’re often the ones that surprise you.
Lens 4: Fierce Curiosity – Are you ready to face the truth?
This one cuts straight through the noise. Fierce Curiosity doesn’t let you off the hook.
It asks:
- What’s really going on here?
- What am I avoiding—or too afraid to face?
Sometimes the hardest questions unlock the simplest answers.
This lens is about diving deep, even when it’s uncomfortable, to uncover what’s really at the heart of the challenge.
For leaders, Fierce Curiosity is how you get to clarity fast.
The magic of the four lenses
Here’s what I believe with every fibre of my being: Every problem holds the key to something bigger.
Yes, every problem. Even the ones that feel impossible.
These lenses? They’re your way of looking at challenges differently. They take problems from overwhelming to illuminating—and they help you turn obstacles into opportunities.
Your invitation
Next time you feel stuck, don’t just “fix” the problem.
🛑Pause.
🔍Pick a lens.
🧐Ask a better question.
What might shift if you did?
I’d love to know. Or maybe not—because if you’re not curious, that might be the real problem.
Love,
Rita
