Feeling stretched thin? It’s time to reclaim your capacity

Dec 10, 2024

Ever feel like life is quietly cranking up the heat while you’re juggling more plates than ever?

Here’s the truth: capacity isn’t about “doing it all” or working harder. It’s about stepping back, reassessing, and reclaiming what’s yours.

But if you don’t intentionally build capacity, life has a way of shrinking it for you.

Capacity isn’t flashy or loud. It’s the invisible backbone of a life that actually works—a life where you can handle the chaos without losing yourself.

Let’s dive into what building real capacity looks like:

  1. Capacity starts where limits are honoured

We’ve been fed the lie that saying “yes” to everything makes us limitless. It doesn’t—it makes us depleted.

True capacity begins with knowing your limits and unapologetically owning them.

It’s not about doing more; it’s about clearing out the unnecessary so you can focus on what truly matters.

Here’s your starting point:

  •   What’s draining you, day after day?

  •   What genuinely energises you?

Now ask yourself: Why am I tolerating what drains me?

  1. Overthinking is a capacity killer

Think you’re being strategic by analysing every decision to death? You’re not—you’re stuck.

Capacity isn’t about having all the answers. It’s about aligning decisions with your values and letting go of the rest.

The next time you’re caught in an overthinking loop, pause and ask:

  •   Am I overthinking because I’m scared to commit?

Clarity creates space. Overthinking just clogs it up.

  1. What are you carrying that’s not yours?

Inherited beliefs.

Unspoken obligations.

Cultural norms.

They sneak into our lives, quietly draining us without consent.

It’s time to take a closer look:

  •   What expectations are you carrying that aren’t actually yours?

  •   What would happen if you stopped carrying them?

Letting go of inherited weight isn’t just freeing—it’s how you reclaim energy you didn’t even know you’d lost.

  1. Capacity has seasons

Capacity isn’t constant. It ebbs and flows, just like everything else in life.

Sometimes it’s about pushing forward.

Sometimes it’s about stepping back.

The trick is knowing which season you’re in.

Feeling stuck? Ask yourself:

  •   Am I trying to grow in winter?

Capacity grows when we honour the rhythm of rest, growth, and release.

  1. Self-love is capacity in action

Think self-love is a luxury? Think again—it’s the foundation for building capacity.

Here’s the truth: when you treat yourself with care, you stop wasting energy proving your worth to others.

Next time you feel stuck, try this:

What is this problem designed to solve?

This single question can flip frustration into curiosity and shrink overwhelm into clarity.

Capacity: the real superpower

The world doesn’t need more people burned out and overextended. It needs people operating from a place of clarity, focus, and unapologetic alignment.

So here’s my question for you:

What are you ready to stop carrying?

What are you ready to reclaim?

Capacity isn’t about getting more hours in your day.

It’s about giving yourself back to yourself.

Love,

Rita
