When Lost: My Tiny Step Forward
Jul 05, 2023Even those of us who've journeyed far in personal growth and understanding can stumble, can lose our bearings.
Today, I’m not coming to you as a coach or an expert, but as someone who’s in the same boat, someone who recently found herself a bit lost.
Just the other day, I woke up with a heavy feeling. This big vision of mine, that usually lights a spark in me, felt more like a great stone, anchoring me down in a whirlpool of confusion.
I had a clear image of where I wanted to be, but how to set off was a complete mystery. It was as if I was staring at a map without any roads.
Despite this unsettling feeling, I stuck to my morning ritual. I rolled out of bed, put the kettle on, journal in hand, and took my usual spot on my peaceful veranda.
As the soft morning light fell around me, I paused and turned my mind towards gratitude.
Reflecting on a recent invigorating mountain trip, I found solace in the calm moments of solitude on my veranda.
Then, in the midst of this quiet, a phrase from Michael A. Singer’s ‘The Surrender Experiment’ bobbed up in my thoughts: the idea of surrendering to the ebb and flow of life. Taking a cue from this, I felt an urge to go for a walk.
With each step, I murmured to myself, “Just let go, Rita.”
As I surrendered, the weight on my chest seemed to lighten.
In this eased state, I asked myself, “What’s the smallest step I could take right now, to edge closer to my vision?” And then it hit me - I could share my experience with you.
By choosing to surrender and take this tiny step forward, I started to regain my footing.
The magic of this moment? A gentle uplift in my spirit, a glimmer of direction, and a spark of excitement flickering back to life. Trust me, it’s all about how you feel.
Like anyone else, I have moments when I lose my way, despite all the wisdom and experiences I’ve accumulated. But even in those times, the solution is to stay present, to surrender, and to take a tiny step forward.
By doing so, we gain a glimmer of clarity and a dash of confidence.
So here I am, sharing this with you. What will your small step be today?
Love
Rita
