Could Your Problem Be a Hidden Invention?

Let’s start with a question. Ever considered that a problem might not just be a roadblock, but an invitation? Or even… a quiet spark of invention?

Years ago, in a hospital in Manchester, I found myself face-to-face with a frustrating reality: my son Benjamin, struggling with a rare genetic disorder, urgently needed an MRI scan. But the standard procedure wouldn’t work. 

All the experts insisted we’d hit an immovable wall—Benjamin’s condition was too complex for traditional methods. Yet something in me wouldn’t accept that dead-end.

And then it hit me—what if this problem wasn’t about solving, but about creating? 

What if the very limits everyone kept running up against were there to point us toward something new, something no one else had thought to try?

Instead of staying locked in what seemed impossible, I began exploring. 

What if we could extend the tube to allow the machine to stay outside the MRI room? 

It wasn’t the equipment, or even Benjamin’s health that was truly in the way. It was the narrow view of what “should” work. 

By letting curiosity lead, we co-created a breakthrough that wasn’t just for him—it paved the way for others with similar needs to access critical scans, safely and innovatively.

So, here’s my question to you: what if the problem in front of you isn’t a door closing, but an entirely new doorway—an invitation to a more creative, compassionate way forward?
