Are You Ready to Stop Hiding and Step Into Your True Power?

Oct 22, 2024

As leaders, change-makers, and visionaries—especially as women—we’re often asked to fit into boxes, wear the masks society hands us, and follow the rules.

But here’s a question: What if you were born with innate power?

What if, like Superman, it’s not about transforming into someone or something new, but about uncovering the strength that’s been within you all along?

In a recent conversation with my Lumina Conexus Mastermind community, we explored the analogy of Superman compared to other superheroes. Think about it—Spider-Man and Batman both need to suit up to access their powers. Peter Parker becomes Spider-Man. Bruce Wayne transforms into Batman.

But Superman? He’s always Superman. Clark Kent is the disguise.

Now, that’s a powerful reflection: How often do we show up as the “Clark Kent” of our own lives, hiding our true strength, playing small, and adapting to what’s expected of us?

Here’s the truth: Superman doesn’t need to “become” anyone to step into his power. He was born with it. And so were you. The roles we play to fit in—those are just masks that hide our immense potential.

The Mask We Wear

In leadership, the mask often represents the conditioning that tells us to blend in, to tone down, to not stand out.

Especially as women in leadership, we’re handed these masks from a young age. We shrink ourselves into roles that were never designed for us.

But, like Superman, we can choose to take off that mask and reveal who we really are. Imagine the impact you could have if you didn’t wait for permission to step into your full power.

Authenticity Is Our Superpower

The real work, for us on a mission, is to unmask ourselves.

It’s not about “becoming” more—it’s about being more of who we already are.

Time and again, I’ve seen what happens when a person steps fully into their authenticity.

Everything amplifies—your vision becomes clearer, your capacity expands, and your ability to create systemic change accelerates.

It’s not about never feeling vulnerable. Even Superman has his kryptonite. But it is about showing up as your full self—especially when it’s hard. And when you do that, you give others permission to do the same.

Removing the Mask in Leadership

Where are your “Clark Kent” moments—the times you hide your true self to fit in?

What would happen if you let that go?

True power lies not in pretending to be someone else but in fully owning who you already are.

Superman didn’t need to become someone else to be extraordinary. Neither do you.

As we tackle the world’s most critical challenges—whether it’s climate change, energy transition, gender justice or many other challenges —remember this: you don’t need a costume to make an impact. You were born with everything you need.

So, here’s my question: Are you ready to take off your mask?

Are you ready to take up space?

Where in your life are you still pretending to be “Clark Kent,” when you’re actually Superman?

Do you want help to take off your mask??

Love,
Rita

PS. While Superman uses his Clark Kent persona to blend in and hide his superpowers, Wonder Woman is different. As Diana Prince, she didn’t conceal her true self or powers—she stepped fully into her identity as Wonder Woman, no matter the role she played.
